Hephaistos’ Month of Devotional Thought: Day 10 – Common Offerings

Χαίρετε ἀναγνώστες!

Today’s topic is common offerings to Hephaistos.

I actually don’t really have much idea about this. The Orphic Hymn lists his incense as frankincense. Other offerings might be composed of little “fruits of labour”, things you have made yourself, in dedication to Hephaistos. Wine would also be very appropriate, not just because it is a standard libation liquid, but also because of how Dionysos managed to get Hephaistos drunk and thus initiate his liberation from his grievances and the reconciliation with the Gods. Writing your own compositions, poetry, hymns to honour him would also be appropriate, though perhaps not directly connected to his domain.

Things one could do as a sort of devotional activity is to support worker’s rights and support campaigns to demand better working conditions and particularly safety. This would not be an offering given to the God, but rather an activity in his sphere of influence for the benefit of workers.

That’s all I can think of. If others, perhaps devotees of the God, have more suggestions please leave them in the comments.
